Family Therapy
Family therapy is a type of psychotherapy that engages the family unit to nurture change and development within the family system and considers healthy family relationships essential to individual wellness and health.
Family therapy emphasizes thorough understanding of family history, culture and current roles of each family member, along with shared and individual issues, needs and aspirations. It tends to assess therapeutic progress in terms of changes in the system of interactions between family members, and also the changes of the interactions of the family as a unit and the surrounding environment.
Typically, family therapy is attended by two or more family members together with a therapist. The problems addressed can vary in terms of their causes, influences, triggers, and potential resolutions, and include, but are not limited to:
Communication problems
Anger management
Coping with trauma/abuse/neglect
Grief/Loss
Adjustment to family member's medical illness
Ageing/Stage of life concerns
Adjustment to separation/divorce
We accept most insurance plans and self pay arrangements can be worked out as well. Coverage will be checked and relayed to the family before services begin. As a general policy, cancellation REQUIRES a 24 hour notice, otherwise the family will be responsible for a $100 late cancellation fee.
Disclaimer: Only one person's insurance plan is billed for family therapy appointments. Number of family therapy sessions allowed is determined by individual insurance plans. Should services be denied by your plan, the insurance allowance will be applied to the responsible party.
