Mental health interventions for children/adolescent vary with respect to the problem being addressed and to the age and other individual characteristics of the child.
Please be assured that at Primary Care Psychology Associates, LLC we utilize only treatment methods clinically and scientifically proven to work for the concerns of your child.
Typically, initial therapy sessions will last for 60 minutes. Depending on the presenting concern, the therapist may ask for the child to attend the appointment alone, or together with other important family members. Follow up appointments last for 30-55 minutes, depending on the needs of the child and their family. With all child or adolescent patients, some form of contact is maintained between the therapist and the legal guardian of the child.
Duration of individual therapy will vary based on the nature of your child's concerns. However, as a general rule, our therapists will respond to their individual needs with the mindset that a lot can be accomplished in a relatively time-limited period. Our many years of training and experience in the field have taught us that by employing evidence-based interventions, and a goal-oriented mindset, we can effectively reduce the duration of therapy without sacrificing quality. In contrast with more traditional "talk therapy", we find that our patients consistently see notable improvement in 6-12 sessions. Longer term therapy is always available to patients whose needs and concerns require it. Once progress is achieved, many families elect to treat our clinicians as their "Primary Care Psychologists" and remain in contact with us 1-2x/year to ensure that gains are maintained.
We accept most insurance plans, and self pay arrangements can be worked out as well. Coverage will be checked and relayed to the patient before services begin. As a general policy, cancellation REQUIRES a 24 hour notice, otherwise the patient's guardian will be responsible for a $100 late cancellation fee.
Disclaimer: Number of therapy sessions allowed is determined by each individual insurance plan. Should services be denied by your plan, the insurance allowance will be applied to the responsible party.
