Behavioral Weight management
By Team PCPA

Managing your weight can be a challenging task in today's world. The Behavioral Health Clinicians at PCPA can assist you in making a wide range of life changes aimed towards healthy and satisfying relationship with food and with your own body. Your therapist will collaborate with you on establishing realistic goals that set you up for success and match with recommendations made by your primary care physician.
We initiate behavioral weight management with the assumption that your dysfunctional relationship with food exists in the context of the rest of your life and relationships and should be addressed in this context, instead of as an isolated phenomenon. We help you understand the different roles food has played in your life, including role of culture and family background. We also work to amplify your awareness of triggers that may lead to emotional eating such as stress, conflict and low self-esteem and help you address these triggers through cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal psychotherapy. We evaluate current lifestyle habits such as sleep, substance use and work hours that may be hindering progress. Once we get the big picture, we carefully assess and amplify your motivation to change your behaviors, being there along the way to there to celebrate your successes, and comfort you at times of struggle.
At Primary Care Psychology Associates, LLC we have partnered with Erika Siesennop, MS, RD, LDN, a registered dietitian of Rising Root Nutrition to provide specialty nutrition therapy. Ask your therapist for referral today and check out Erika's website at https://www.therisingrootnutrition.com/. As part of healthy and effective weight management, we also seek collaboration with your primary and specialty care medical providers, and may recommend individualized pharmacological treatment as a way to augment your success.
